Diocesan Association e-mail Bulletin, Archdiocese of Kingston: Update Dec. 1, 2015
Liturgical Commission Appeal for Help
Fr. John Hibbard, Chair of the Archdiocese Liturgical Commission is appealing to all the councils and assemblies in the Knights of Columbus in the Archdiocese of Kingston for help with printing costs.
The Liturgical Commission of the Archdiocese of Kingston would like to print a number of Booklets for the Jubilee Year of Mercy that Pope Francis has proclaimed. These Booklets would be used both in Parishes throughout the Archdiocese and in the Cathedral for the Pilgrims who will come to enter the Holy Door and receive the Jubilee Indulgence. Another Booklet is designed for the Sick and Shut-Ins of the Parishes, who are confined to their homes or health care facilities. Pope Francis has asked that we reach out to them and all who are marginalized. Donations towards the cost of printing (estimated at $3-4,000) would be appreciated so that we do not have to charge people or the Parishes for these.
Donations should be sent to the Archdiocese of Kingston. Please indicated that it is for Jubilee Booklets.
Financial Help toward our Door of Mercy
A symbol of the Jubilee of Mercy is the opening of the Holy Door in the Papal Basilica in Rome. Pope Francis for this Jubilee Year has decreed every diocesan cathedral is to have a Door of Mercy. St Mary’s Cathedral will embellish one of the existing main entrance doors with symbols of the sacrament of baptism. Any financial contributions from council or assemblies to help finish the Door of Mercy would be most welcomed and also a nice way to contribute to the start of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
Archbishop’s Oct 3 Remarks “We are called to be disciples”
Remarks by Archbishop Brendan O’Brien at the last meeting of the Knights of Columbus Diocesan Association on October 3rdwere very informative and helpful for members in attendance. He spoke about how the Knights may focus our support to our parishes regarding the needs across the archdiocese. He went on the speak about the reason we have parishes about the purpose of the Church, is to make disciples, and he gave us general and specific ways our councils can help; including how we can participate in the Jubilee Year of Mercy, initiated by Pope Francis.
A transcript of the Archbishop’s Oct 3rd message to our members is made available to us and is attached to this e-mail bulletin for all member DDs, GKs and FNs to use. A copy will also be go on our association website.

Wanted: Host for Seminarian Appreciation Dinner Year 2017
Every year in August, our Archdiocese of Kingston has a wonderful annual event in which we can meet, celebrate and thank the seminarians in our archdiocese on their vocation journey to the priesthood. To be our future priests. Over the years our Diocesan Association of the Knights of Columbus, sponsors of the Annual Seminarian Dinner, is blessed with member councils who volunteer to host the dinner. Recently Morrisburg (2014), Belleville (2015) have held successful dinners and now South Mountain is making preparations to host the August 2016 dinner all adding to a 14 year tradition.
We are now looking of a council to host the future 2017 event. It is not too early to think about this honour. If your council is interested in hosting a future Seminarian Appreciation Dinner and if you have some questions to ask about hosting, please contact your Diocesan Association Director. Yes, there is help and support available for host councils. Interested?
